It Looks Like a Mu'u Mu'u

So I made a muslin of my next sewing project --- this very cute dress from the latest issue of Burda. I love the slightly off-shoulder style and the volume of the sleeves and the bodice --- so cool!

Image from here.

Muslins and test garments are funny things, though. They can seriously bring you back to reality.

Yes, this really is the correct pattern. When I tried it on, my first thought was, "ugh, it looks like a mu'u mu'u!" There's quite a bit of volume thanks to the pleats all around the neckline and sleeves. I think this is one dress that definitely needs a belt. I'm going to move forward with it --- we'll see how it turns out. Thank goodness I chose a solid rather than a tropical print!

The muslin kind of looks like a choir robe. The dress looks cute on the model so hopefully it all comes together. Good luck.

It has huge potential. Solid color, tie belt like the model. Your vision is accurate. With a print and no belt.......oh dear......

Belted, it will change silhouette and probably be very flattering.

I'm wearing mine today and it's REALLY cute. But, you absolutely need the belt. It's not sunny here and my dress is navy or I would take photos.

Funny! I didn't think about a choir robe --- hope there aren't too many out there made of silver gray silk!
