The Faux Fur Coat: Finished in Time for a 70-Degree Day!

The final snaps are sewn in and the Faux Fur Coat is finally finished! Of course, I would finish it on the one weekend that has 70-degree temps and sun! Oh well, I still love it, even though I can't really wear it out today.

I used pattern number 101 from Burda Style's October 2008 issue, which was drafted for faux fur. It was simple to sew (raglan sleeves and straight lines) and a perfect style to show off a fabulous fabric. The only pattern changes I made were to shorten the total length by about 2 inches and turn the sleeves into 3/4 length (the pattern is for elbow-length sleeves). I opted to exclude the top snap (the one that goes just below the collar) because I doubt I would ever snap it all the way up. Looking at the photo, I may add one more snap to the bottom.

Here's a shot of the lining.

Despite the drama of the flying fur, I absolutely love this coat and am really pleased that I gave faux fur a try. I was truly inspired by all of the faux fur projects that I've seen on other blogs recently, and actually built up the courage to try it out because of the experiences others have shared. Thank you! Now I need to wait for the cool weather to return so I can wear it out --- we're really having some odd January weather this weekend!

That is an elegant, beautiful coat. It would feel wonderful here in MI, where it's like minus 5 today.
