Because I'm feeling better after a week of fighting a cold (just my luck to get sick during the holidays!) and the fact that my obsession --- the faux fur --- hasn't arrived yet, I thought I would start on a trench dress I've been thinking about for a while.
The September 2010 issue of Burda is quickly becoming a favorite. In addition to this amazing skirt pattern, there are a number of other styles that I would like to make, one of them being this trench dress.
Image from here. The pattern can be made into a coat or a dress --- some of the details are different (topstitching) and the coat version requires a lining. I'm planning to wear mine as a dress, but I'll probably add the lining and topstitching because I like those details.
Here's the fabric I'm using, which is a wool blend with metallic stripes (difficult to see, but the metallic effect is quite striking).
I'm being bold in the new year --- instead of making a muslin, I just worked with the paper pattern, made adjustments according to my moulage, and went straight to the fabric. I'm confident the fit will work --- after all, the moulage hasn't let me down yet!

What an interesting fabric. It will make a beautiful trench dress. EOS's faux furs looked wonderful. Hopefully you will receive your order soon.

Stunning fabric and great pattern. I'm working on a summer trench dress at the moment, so good luck. Patience more than skill is required.
THis dress will be gorgeous in that fabric. Good luck!
