Balenciaga Exhibit in SF is a Must-See

A week ago today, a group of us who live in the San Francisco area spent a wonderful day with Cristobal (Balenciaga, that is -- or more accurately, his fabulous garments) at the de Young museum in Golden Gate Park.

It was so fun to meet fellow sewing bloggers and enthusiasts and share the experience of viewing exquisite works from a master designer. It was even more fun to learn more about each other during a leisurely lunch! From scrutinizing construction details like darts and seamlines (highlighted with a mini flashlight -- until security called it a no-go!) to admiring the range of inspirations -- religion, fishermen, matadors -- that informed Balenciaga's designs, I felt the day was enriched by sharing it with others who love sewing and fashion as much as I do.

Photo from here.

Beth of SunnyGal Studio, Sharon of Communing with Fabric, and Jillian of JillyBeJoyful have wonderful posts and photos from the day. It was also great to meet Rose of Needles, Pins, Thorns, Jennifer of Sew What?, Sydney, Natasha and Andrea (we missed you for the group photo)!

If you are in need of summer plans, come out to San Francisco before the exhibit closes on July 4!

Thanks for another nice post about such a wonderful day! :)

The next time we meet, perhaps we need to think about a button exchange ;-D

It sounds like everyone had a wonderful time and the exhibit was fantastic. I will have to settle for rereading a book I have in by library; Balenciaga and His Legacy by Myra Walker and wondering if you saw any of the garments in the book.

Oh what a fabulous day with friends and fashion. You always go to the best exhibits and so far I have had to experience them through you. Thank you for sharing and keeping me fashion informed.
