Help Needed With Last-Minute Dress Project

This is critical, guys. I have an event in a couple of weeks and I am having one of those "I have nothing to wear" moments. A dress would be most appropriate, as it will be outdoors in the late afternoon/evening by the ocean -- but I'm not sure what to make. I have a couple of ideas below, but any other suggestions would be appreciated. I'm planning to hit Thai Silks on Saturday! Thank you!

How about something like this?

Or this from the August 2009 issue of Burda?

Oh they are both gorgeous (and both still on my sewing wishlist, to my shame).
Which one to make? I guess it depends if you call in love with a knit or a woven!

I'd go for the first one. It has that 'something' while the second one seems qiute... well, plain. But hey, it's just my oppinion, my colours and figure demand something more drastic. You go for the one you think it'd accentuate You best.

I've made both. Go with the first one, once you've "unpetite" it if you're not petite.

First one. The sleeves lend themselves to "fall", even though your weather will be lovely.
Style is balanced for petite gals such as ourselves.

I'd go for the first one. You've already made the skirt so you will have a good sense of the fit and can put it together quickly.

I've made the first one - it was really well drafted, and went together super-easily.

Funny you mention Burda 9/2010, I've just started working on the curve skirt from that issue. I also would like to sew the pink dress...but I am not sure whether the sleeves would make it suitable for winter

Both are gorgeous; both on my "want" list.

If you go with a Thai silk, the second one would be much better, and would be stunning. I love the simple but urbane lines - very sophisticated, and in my opinion, not remotely boring or plain.

Both would be appropriate and your choice of fabrics always makes your creations unique and beautiful. I thought the same as Gail, that since you have made the curved seam skirt, the first dress might go quicker. But I have always admired the second dress and have thought of making it myself.
