Thought this was an interesting blurb on NYT: the shears behind the designers. I love the back-stories because they convey how important and treasured these very utilitarian items are to people who design and sew.
I currently use a pair of Gingher shears with no back-story other than they were purchased at Joann's and have a pink ribbon on the handle so they wouldn't get lost in a class. But, I remember my grandmother had a pair of pinking shears that were nearly as scary-looking as the pair owned by Brian Wolk and Claude Morais. As a child, I was fascinated with them because of the jagged edges and the fact that they were a menacing steel gray -- very industrial-looking. I'm not sure where they are now -- probably somewhere in my mom's house -- but I guess that pair would sort-of qualify as a "shear with a story".
