Thanks for the Inspiration, Pink Hibiscus

I'm so thrilled that my hibiscus plants are blooming! I have three pots and all three are still alive and offering gorgeous pink blooms!

Inspired by the vibrancy of this bright pink color, I'm planning to incorporate it into my latest "get ready for cool weather" project -- a long coat. While I'm not wild and crazy enough to make it the primary color of the coat, I'm planning to use it for the lining as well as perhaps some sort of piping along the front edges, sleeve edges, etc. Here's a photo of the coat pattern from Burda's November 2006 issue. I am unsure about those pocket flaps -- I might make them smaller, but would welcome any thoughts.

Here are the fabrics I've chosen (apologies for the quality of the photo -- seems kind of grainy).

The main fabric is the charcoal gray wool coating; the lining is the lighter pink silk charmeuse; and the piping/other accent details will use the bright pink wool crepe. I'm looking forward to working on a new tailored project!

  2. The thrill of the start of a new project! Especially a big project!

Burda does love flaps! I kept the ones in my coat (http://lacubanitacose.blogspot.com/search?q=burda+coat) and I do love my coat!

Look forward to hearing about your journey.
