All About Lace

My mind is filled with lace these days. The Susan Khalje workshop is days away and I've been busily making my muslins. In addition, I've been researching all things lace.

Lace has been making a fashion comeback for a couple of years now. Here's an article in the WSJ from 2011 that offers a glimpse into high-end lace-making which, as an industry, has shrunk to a handful of family-owned businesses centered in one small town in France. An interesting side note: the lace patterns that were being designed and drawn at the time of this article were for garments expected to hit stores in early 2013 -- that's a 2-year process!

I visited Britex Fabrics recently to scope out their lace fabrics. Wow. So beautiful -- and so many different types. I managed to snap a couple of pics of some laces that stood out for me.

Now back to my muslins!

  1. Very pretty. I have some lace in my stash I'd like to use up. I'll be reading with interest.

  2. Beautiful! It sounds like you might be attending the same workshop as another friend of mine, Lynn. How fun!
