Knitting: Sculptured Peplum Jacket

The peplum trend continues with my Sculptured Peplum Jacket (modeled with the Bustle Skirt!).

The hand-knit pattern is called "Steed" and was published by Kim Hargreaves in her book, "Scarlet". I used a wonderful nylon/viscose blend yarn called "Zoe" from Artfibers, one of my fave yarn shops in San Francisco. It is easy to knit, as the main stitch pattern is a simple seed stitch. The most challenging part is working the flared peplum in the back, which requires short-row shaping to form the curved hem.

The only pattern modification I made was to lengthen the collar height and add a stockinette stitch facing, which I folded over and stitched down to the neckline seam. This facing gave the collar additional structure and allowed the collar to stand up rather than flop down.

Overall, I'm happy with how this jacket turned out. It is a great addition to my wardrobe.

  6. This is really lovely. (I had to stop knitting a couple of years ago, and I really miss it. But, it's fun to watch what others are doing.)
